Are We There Yet?

I was enjoying a day with two of my grandkids.  The day involved about a half hour trip with the kids in the back seat.  We were driving when I heard a familiar phrase coming from the back seat.  I haven’t heard that phrase since their mother was young.  “Are we there yet” was the question coming to me.  Five minutes later I heard it again, “are we there yet”.  They were excited and full of anticipation to arrive at their fun destination.  The trip was not so exciting.

One day we will arrive at our eternal destination.  Heaven will be so wonderful with the joyful reunions, the fulfilling service, and the indescribable beauty of the Father’s House.  Our bodies will be glorified, with no more pain, tears, or sorrow.  We look forward with intense longing to meet our Savior, the One who died for us.  Yet we too may find ourselves asking, “are we there yet”.  We never know how long our ride will last.  For some their trip on life’s road is short.  For others the trip may last a long time.  Some find their trip filled with trials and tears.  But sooner or later if we have placed our faith in Christ, we will arrive at our glorious destination.

Our Lord will one day welcome us home, but until that day comes, we are to be occupied fully during our ride.  Jesus expects us be His witnesses (Acts 1:8).  Our duties also involve fishing for men (Lk. 5:10) and being ambassadors for Christ (2 Cor. 5:20).  We are also to live a life that would glorify our Savior.  This dark world needs to see our light shining brightly for the Savior. Our ride on this earthly road may get difficult at times, but His grace is sufficient for us.  We must live fully and joyfully the life God has given us.  He is not finished with us yet.

Like my impatient grandchildren we may cry out in exasperation, “are we there yet”.  However, while we look forward to our glorious destination, we should also enjoy the ride
