Building Inspector

The little white truck pulled up to the newly constructed home across the street from my house.  The driver was having a chat with the small crew that were adding the finishing touches on the house.  I noticed that the inscription on the side of the vehicle read “Building Inspector”.  Building Inspectors are tasked with ensuring the work is permitted and the construction is up to code.  Most people are a little nervous when that white building inspector truck pulls up in front of their home.

Seeing that truck reminded me of another building inspection that will occur one day.  Those who know Christ have had all their sins forgiven when they believed in Christ and are assured of heaven.  However, the Bible describes a day in the future when every believer’s works will be judged by the Lord.  This event is called the Judgment Seat of Christ.  2 Cor. 5:9,10 tells us: “Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad”.  This event will take place in heaven and does not deal with our salvation but our service.  Another verse describes this scene like a building inspection in 1 Cor. 3:11,12: “For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is”.  As believers in Christ, we need to be building carefully on the foundation of our salvation a life of faithful service for the Lord.  If we have lived our life for our self and done little for our Lord, it will not pass inspection but be burned up.  But if we have served Him with our whole heart the gold, silver and precious stones of our labor will elicit from our Lord His well done good and faithful servant. Will our construction meet with the approval of our Heavenly Building Inspector?
