Road Hazards

When purchasing new tires many places will also sell you a road hazard contract. For a one-time fee you can have them fix your tire if something happens to it. Perhaps you pick up a nail or screw and your tire begins to lose air. The road hazard contract allows you to get your tire fixed free of charge. This gives a certain peace of mind while driving on the roads.

Our spiritual life can be hazardous. Satan does his best to sidetrack us from following the Lord. He will spread temptations across our path like nails in the road. He will attempt to deflate our joy and flatten our faithfulness to Christ. He will do anything he can to impede our progress on the narrow road.

I am so thankful that our Lord gives us a road hazard contract in His Word. When we fail Him and yield to temptation we can go to our Lord and seek His forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 encourages us: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”. David had a major blowout when he committed adultery with Bathsheba. His spiritual life swerved out of control and his praise grew silent. However, when Nathan confronted him with his sin, David repented and sought the Lord for forgiveness. He said in Psalm 51:1-4: “Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight-- That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge”. God in His mercy forgave David, and though he was disciplined, God restored him to usefulness.

Have you detected a slow leak in your spiritual life? Are you slowing down or even found that you have ended up in a ditch? It is time to cash in on heaven’s road hazard policy. Turn to the Lord and ask His forgiveness and get back on the road again.
