Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica on Tuesday October 28.  The vicious category 5 hurricane with winds of 185 miles per hour blew ashore near Black River Jamaica.  It cut a path of devastation across the island and then headed for Cuba.  Residents knew that the monster storm was coming.  Some evacuated, some battened down, and some just downplayed the effects of the storm thinking they would be spared.  Hurricane Melissa was the biggest storm to hit the island of Jamaica.  It was real, it was devastating.

You and I constantly face storms.  These storms may hit our bodies, they may hit those we love, they may hit our jobs, or our finances.  We never know when they will come but they come often.  Someone once said you are either getting ready for a storm, going through a storm, or just coming out of one.

Jesus told the disciples to go across the Sea of Galilee.  He sent them on a mission and told them He would join them later.  In the meantime, a violent storm hit the little boat while the disciples were in the middle of the sea.  Jesus saw their plight and came to them walking on the water. Peter asked His Lord if it was really Him to call him to come to Him walking on the water.  Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on the water coming to Jesus.  However, when he felt the powerful wind of the storm, he took his eyes off Jesus and began to sink.  It was then Peter urgently said: "Lord, save me!" And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?" (Matt. 14:30,31).

Sooner or later a storm is coming.  It may not be a cat 5 hurricane, but it will still rock our world.  What should we do?  Peter would remind us that Jesus will come to us in the middle of the storm, and we must keep our eyes on Jesus no matter how strong the wind blows.  He would also tell us that when we begin to sink don’t be afraid to cry out to Jesus for help.
