The Dark Side of the Moon

Artemis II accomplished something no human has ever done on April 6, 2026.  The spacecraft went farther into space than any human has ever gone, a distance of 252,757 miles.  They also witnessed with their own eyes what no other human has ever seen, the dark side of the moon.  The dark side of the moon is synonymous with something that is unreachable or unknown.  On earth, as we look up at the moon, we only see one side of the moon, but those onboard the Artemis II saw the far side of the moon with their own eyes.  The Artemis mission reveals to us the wonders of God’s amazing creation.  It reminds us how tiny we are in the universe.  Yet no matter how small earth is, God chose to create man on the earth and provide him with all he needs to survive.

The distance that Artemis II traveled in its scientific expedition is mind-boggling.  However, the distance that Christ traveled in His redemptive mission was much further.  The Bible tells us in Phil.2:5-11: “Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus, who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be used for His own advantage. Instead, He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a slave, taking on the likeness of men. And when He had come as a man in His external form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death— even to death on a cross”.  These verses describe the Father’s mission to redeem man from his sin.  God sent His only Son from the glories of heaven to descend to the earth.  Christ became man to die on the cross to pay the price for our salvation.

Artemis II’s record setting mission to the moon will go down in history.  Man may continue his explorations of space and may even send someone to Mars.  Yet, no matter how far man travels, the distance that Christ traveled in His mission to save our soul was far greater.
