In the Nick of Time

The Israelites were being pursued by Pharaoh’s chariots.  They would soon be overwhelmed and taken back to Egyptian slavery.  The Red Sea before them and the Egyptians behind them made their escape impossible.  But in the nick of time God opened the Red Sea and they escaped, crossing over on dry land.

Peter saw Jesus walking on the water and asked Jesus that if it was really Him to command him to come to Him walking on the water.  Peter stepped out on the water and began walking on the water himself.  However, when he saw the raging waves, he took his eyes off Jesus and began to sink.  But in the nick of time Jesus grabbed Peter and rescued him from drowning.

There were two thieves crucified with Jesus.  They had lived lives of wickedness and now were paying the price for their crimes on a cruel Roman cross.  One thief, however, began to realize that the person on the middle cross was the Savior.  He didn’t know much but he knew he deserved to die for his crimes.  He looked at Jesus and said: "Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom." And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise." (Luke 23:42,43).  The thief on the cross was saved, just in the nick of time.

The saving power of our Lord is available to all who will simply call out to Him in faith.  We may foolishly delay our decision to accept His great salvation until we are in a place of desperation.  We may put off receiving Him until we are old.  We may dangerously wait until we are at death’s door.  In the nick of time the thief called out to the Lord and He was assured that very day he would be with Jesus in paradise.  One thief was saved that none may despair, but only one thief was saved that none may presume.  Don’t delay, call on Him today!  “Now is the accepted time, today is the day of salvation” (2 Cor. 6:2).
