Prayer for America

Updated: May 2, 2023

Almighty, Heavenly Father we are your people. We have been saved by Your grace and accepted into Your family through faith in Your Son, Jesus Christ. We are so privileged to be citizens of your kingdom. Father we are also thankful to be citizens of this country we call America. Thank You for our dual citizenship.

Lord our heart is breaking for the distance our beloved country has drifted from biblical morality. Abortion has become the law of the land. Human life which is precious in your site has been cheapened by increasing access to this horrendous practice. Religious freedom is under assault as well as family values and traditional views on marriage. The sexual revolution that advocates erotic rites and gender confusion is upon us. Violence and racial unrest prevails on our streets as law and order is eroding. God please heal our land.

Father we pray for the coming election. We pray that men, women and political parties who are wise and who best reflect biblical values would be those who prevail in the election. You tell us in Your Word: “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.”(1 Tim. 2:1,2). We pray for this quiet and peaceable life. We pray that those elected to office will support human flourishing and defend those values that has made us a great nation. Lord, please heal our land.

Lord, Your prophet Daniel told King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 2:21: “… He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings…” You O Lord, are sovereign, You remove kings and raise up kings. We do not pretend to know Your plans. However we rest in Your higher agenda. Father our lives do not rest on the promises of elected officials. Our faith rests on the promises of God. Lord no matter what party wins we know You do not change. We are not called to change the political world, but we are called to change hearts by preaching the gospel of Christ. Lord heal our land, in the name of Jesus, Amen!
