The Joy of Kept Promises

Whether we promise our grandchildren to take them to Disney World or we promise our wife to take her on a cruise, it is wonderful when those promises are fulfilled.  Things can happen that can interfere with our human promises.  However, we can rest assured that when God makes us a promise it will be fulfilled.

God told Abraham and Sarah that they would have a son.  Years passed and Sarah did not get pregnant, and they were not getting any younger.  There were times that they doubted that God would do what He said He would do and even hatched a plan to allow Hagar to carry Abraham’s son.  Yet that was not what God promised them.  The day finally came when Sarah gave birth to her promised son.  She named him Isaac.  Gen. 21:1-3 says: “And the LORD visited Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did for Sarah as He had spoken. For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him--whom Sarah bore to him—Isaac”.  Promise made, promise kept.

I am so glad that we serve a promise keeping God.  Even though those promises may seem humanly impossible, God will come through on those things He specifically tells us in His Word.  We can rest our faith on His promise of salvation.  Paul speaking to the Philippian jailor who wanted to know how to be saved said to him: “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved”.  Another promise we have is the promise of heaven.  Jesus addressing His disciples in the upper room told them that He was going away to the Father’s House to prepare a place for them.  He then promised that they would join Him one day.  Jesus also promised that He would come again.  The very last promise in the Bible was spoken by our Lord when He said: “He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming quickly." Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!” (Rev. 22:20).  Like Sarah, you and I can laugh in joy that God keeps His promises.
