The Next Season

Our lives are measured out by seasons.  Anticipating the next season gives us a sense of excitement and joy.  Many sports fans look forward to the opening day of their favorite team.  Many snowbirds can’t wait to make their annual trip south and then return in the spring.  We in Southwest Florida are eagerly expecting the rainy season to finally make its appearance to our parched lawns.  However, hurricane season we can do without.  Changing seasons are not just about weather, they are also about life cycles.

Those who know Christ as Savior have something far more exciting to anticipate than football season or the arrival of the daily rains.  We are looking forward to the coming of Jesus Christ.  One day Jesus will return and catch away all those who have placed their faith in Him.  He will take us with Him, and we will be ushered into a brand-new season.  It is the season of being with Him in the Father’s House.  We will serve Him, worship Him, and reign with Him in indescribable joy for all eternity. We do not base our confidence in the arrival of this new season on the changing forecasts of the so-called experts.  We base it on the words of Jesus Himself when He said in John 14:1-3: “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also”.

The season God’s children have been living in is just about over.  We are currently fulfilling the mission Jesus gave us to take the gospel into all the world and make disciples.  But one day this season will come to an end. We will then hear that trumpet sound and Jesus will return for His church.  I just can’t wait for rapture season.
