The Urgency of an Immediate Decision

Abraham sent his most trusted servant to go to his ancient homeland and secure a bride for his son Isaac. The servant was given explicit instructions by Abraham and soon took off in enthusiastic pursuit of his task. When he arrived at the home of Abraham’s relatives he told them about the glories of his master and his son. He was seeking a bride for Isaac. A young lady named Rebekah was suggested by the family. When the relatives suggested that they wait for 10 days the servant humbly said: "Do not hinder me, since the LORD has prospered my way; send me away so that I may go to my master." So, they said, "we will call the young woman and ask her personally." Then they called Rebekah and said to her, "Will you go with this man?" And she said, "I will go." So, they sent away Rebekah their sister and her nurse, and Abraham's servant and his men. (Gen. 24:54-59).
This beautiful story of the servant of Abraham seeking a bride for his son reminds us of another father. God is earnestly seeking a bride for His Son Jesus Christ. He has dispatched a faithful servant, the Holy Spirit whose role is to seek the lost and bring them to the Son. This bride is the church. Like Rebekah she is chosen, she is favored, and she is arrayed by the servant. When the family suggested a delay, the servant insisted that they must leave immediately. When Rebekah was asked” “will you go with this man” she replied: “I will go”.
2 Corinthians 6:2 tells us that: “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation”. When the Spirit of God convicts us of our sinfulness and speaks to us about the wonders of God’s Son and His death on the cross, we are faced with an immediate decision. Will we believe the message and accept the gracious invitation to be the bride? Will we, like Rebekah unashamedly proclaim: “I will go with this man”.
